SOCIAL HALL BURNT.

MOUNT WELLINGTON BLAZE. The Panorama Hall at Mount Wellington was burnt yesterday morning, four hours after the members of the Mount Wellington Fire Brigade had held a social function there. Two engines from Mount Wellington, and one each from the Remuera and Ellerslie Brigades, attended, but the flames had a strong hold on the wooden building. Some delay was experienced in calling the Ellerslie and Mount Wellington Brigades, owing to the lack of convenient telephones. A heap of hardwood logs stacked near the hall were badly scorched, but the houses near the building were saved. The strong easterly wind swept the flames across the street, and several houses were threatened. Since the Pan mure Public Hall was destroyed by lire two years ago the Panorama Hall has been the centre for manv of the social functions in the district".

The hall was owned by Mr. Barbarich, and was insured for £500 in the Home Office. -.-
