HOUSE GUTTED.
FIRE AT AVONDALE. An ciglit-roomcd house of wood and iron in Albert Road, Avondale, wa= completely gutted by fire at 1.30 o'clock this morning. The'house was occupied by Mrs. Faulkner, who lived alone, and owned by Mr. G. Magcc, of Alvcrston lioad, Avondale. A milkman, Mr. Knight, was the first to discover that the building was alight. U& gave the alarm to the Avondale brigade, and when the engine arrived the (lames had a strong hold. An engine from the Point Chevalier station also attended, hut the strong wind fanned the lire until it enveloped the whole house. Mrs. Faulkner had been out for the evening, and returned to find the firemen lighting the outbreak. The fire appeared to start in the front of the building, although the cause is unknown. The hodse is insured in the Southern Union office for £000, and the furniture, which aTso belonged to Mr. Magee, is insured for £.'IOO in the same ollice.
