A BELOVED NURSE.

The death oecurrcd in Wellington recently of Nurse Esther Mitchell, who for the past seventeen years had been charge nurse at the Plunkct centre in Courtenay Place. Sir Truby King, founder of the Plunket Society, paid a personal tribute to the memory of Miss Mitchell, whom he regards as the society's "beloved nurse." Miss Mitchell took her course of training in midwifery (as maternity nursing was then called) at the Wellington St. Helens Hospital exactly 20 years ago. She graduated with distinction the same vear, and was at once appointed staff nurse to the institution. In 1914 Miss Mitchell took her Plunket training at Dunedin, under the then matron, Miss Campbell, and she was at once appointed staff nurse at the Karitane Harris Hospital, remaining there until promoted next year to the position of charge nurse at the Plunket centre in Courtenay Place, where she had remained ever since.
