BUILDING WAGES.
The new building subsidy scheme lias been launched, and on making inquiry at the office I find that all tradesmen must be paid 2/ per hour. This wage for five and a half days is £4 8/, or £4 3/7 after the wages tax has been deducted. I ask is it fair to pay such wages from funds that are drawn from men and women who are getting about half that amount? I know of scores who are contributing to-the unemployment funds ami who ar<J not making half as much. Carpenters are glad of work at their trade at 12/ a day if they can get in 5' or even 5 day? a week. 35 YEARS A BUILDER.
