RACING AT TRENTHAM.

WELLINGTON MEETING

PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW,

RECENT FORM REVIEWED.

The Winter meeting of the Wellington Racing Club will open at Trentham tomorrow, and with the splendid fields engaged in the large majority of events there should be some excellent racing. The presence of several horses from the Auckland province will help to create additional interest locally. The going is euro to be heavy after the recent rain Hack 'Chasers.. Eight were paid up for in the Matai Steeplechase, but Neil will not. be thei*. Thurina has not raced for some time, but at the Grand National meeting in 1931 he wen the Hunt Club Steeplechase and the Aylesbury Steeplechase. He hats been working well af Riccarton recently, and should give a good account of himself. Quinopal was third in a steeplechase at Oamaru last Saturday week. Tunbridge has previously shown good form over hurdles, • and has been schooling well, at Trentham, and lie should be in the picture. Fine Acre has been going amiss in steeplechases recently, but he would only need to keep sound to have an excellent chance. He won the Adamson Steeplechase at the Egmont winter meeting, and was second in the Grandstand Steeplechase at Wanganui. Jen and Kaokaoroa look the best of the others. Most money may go on THURINA TUNBRIDGE - FINE ACRE. The Woburn Handicap. Foreign Queen and Woodful are at the top of the Woburn Handicap. The former has been showing excellent form recently, winning her last three races—five furlongs and a half at Foxton with . 9.6, six furlonge at Hawke's Bay with 9.8, and six furlonge and a half at the same fixture with 10.5. Wopdful's best performance recently was in running third in the Carbine Plate at the Great Northern meeting. However, he has previously shown a liking for Trentham, as has Drum Fire, who hae been galoping well at Riccarton since he ran third at Ashburton. King Thomond has shown fairly consistent form during the last few months, winning at Wairarapa, and also at Wanganui over six furlongs. Errantry has been successful over six furlongs in his last two starts, and he is a very likely sort. Sir Pombal ran fairly at Otaki, while Amyril won over six furlonge at Foxton, and Palace was second to Thrasher in a mile event at the eame meeting. Pango, Repudiation and Gold Drws appeal most of the remainder. The public- m«.v 30 FOREIGN QUEEX DRUM FIRE ERRANTRY Vlttoria Hurdles. High Grader showed great promise as a hurdler at Napier Park, winning Ms first two races over the battens, and lie will have to be respected in the Vittoria Hurdles. Hounelow was third in the June 'Hurdle Race at Dunedin, and second in the Otago Hurdle Race at the name meeting, while Knollmere won over hurdles in hollow fashion at his first start at the Manawatu Hunt meeting, but was reported to be sore after schooling at Wanganui on Friday, and may not start. Vitaphone was second and third in his outings at Otaki, and is a likely improper. King Comet, who is in the eame .stable as Billy Boy, is a good jumper, while Sir Musk was a poor third in the Panmure Hurdles at EUerelie last month. Ramuna was eecond to High Grader at Napier, and second to Knollmere at Awapuni. In the absence of Knollmere a trio that may have support are .;

HTGH GRADER VITAPHONE. RAMUNA. Stewards' Handicap. Huntingdon is at the head of the Stewards' Handicap, and his recent form has been good. He won over six and a half furlongs with 9.10 at Hastings, and at Napier Park was third over six furlongs with 10.5, and was narrowly beaten over seven furlongs with 10.2. Manawhenua did not,race as well as expected at the Great Northern meeting, but he looks to be in better order now. All Humbug ie engaged in this event, and also the Whyte Handicap later in the day. His form has been good, and in whichever he starts he should take some beating, lhe eame remarks apply to Beacon Fire. Slippery has also performed well during the last few weeks, winning five events out of his last eight starts, and being placed on two other occasions. He will have support. The Tiger has also ecored twine out of his last three efforts. He is good when at his best. Merry Peel has been running well in the South,, .and twelve months ago won two races in. one day at TrcntMm. Tspyal Hilfttittg, J ,Miladi and Cottesmore are smart look the pick of the others. Most of the investments may go on ..i, . . . .

SLIPPERY. . 7.-.;;:>:;• ' 7; ■ 7 The Chief Event. 7.! : 7 '• The Wellington Steeplechase ifl-'the chief event of-the day,'and though .there-; are only eight engaged they makeup in quality what they lack in number: Billy Boy won thie event last year w>ith\Mb less, and he should again go well. Callamart.was successful in both, the, Great Northern and the Winter Steeplechases at \Bllerslie last month, and should take some beating. Make Up, won over steeples at Ie Rapa, and was secbncl to Callamart in the Winter Steeplechase at__\ EUefceUe;:-.and, he should be better now. Luna Lux has won five steeplechases on" end, but; he has a inuchstiffer taik in front of "him to-morrow, though he should go well. Copey is said to have improved since he was here. High Pitch was one of the leaders for a good way in _the Great Northern Steeplechase, and is a possibility, as he can handle soft ground well. Those that may have most friends are CALLAMART MAKE UP BILLY BOY. ; Trentham Hurdles. .

Paddon, who has pride of place in the Trentham Hurdles', won this event. last year. He finished fourth in the Great Northern Hurdles, and won the Campbell Hurdles easily on the last day. He should be improved. High Falutin' won both the Century and the May Hurdles at Wanganui, and was third in the Hawke s Bay Hurdlee. He will have to be respected. Pahu won the vittoria and Corunna Hurdles at this meeting twelve months ago, and he was second to Paddon in the Winter Hurdlee. He won over hurdlee at Otaki last month, and will have to be considered. Morena, it is stated, 'will not start at the meeting. Gold Knight won twice- at the same meeting, and is a most promising sort. Henry of Navarre was unlucky to be beaten at Napier Park by High Grader, a head dividing the pair. Solanio seems the best of the others. Those that may carry most money are PADDON " HIGH FALUTIN' PAHU.

Whyte Handicap

Seatown, after his third in the Cornwall' Handicap, and his victory in the York Handicap at the Great Northern meeting, is topweight in the Whyte Handicap. He is good in soft going, and is stated to have done well in the interim. Cylinder showed that he was returning to his best when lie ran third at Napier Park recently. Retract won over i mile and a quarter at the last Otaki meeting, and was ■ successful iu the Parliamentary Handicap last year. All Humbug and Beacon Fire, if started in this event in preference to. the.Stewards' Handicap, will have plenty of support. Chief Marionette lias been racing most consistently, winning in her last three starts, two being over a mile. Spfiedmint will not make the trip, but Protomint in paid to be in good fettle. Copper King, who was second to Retract at Otaki, Zeebrtigge and Water Power appeal most of the others. Those that may be in most demand, in the absence of Beacon Fire, are ALL HUMBUG SEATOWN ■ . CHIEF MARIONETTE. Te Aro Handicap. Another big field is carded for the Te Aro Handicap, and the favourites may bo WEST TOR . ••••: HEATHER GLOW MARCH ALONE.
