STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

MODERATE PREVIOUSLY. Dracula, who won a double at the Oamaru meeting on Saturday, is a three-year-old gelding by. Arrowsmith. His form previously had been very moderate, only having been placed at the Waikouaiti and Oamaru meetings.

A DAUGHTER OF MUSKETOON. The Musketoon—Lady Greta filly in H. llama's stable has had the name Arohamai bestowed on her. She has been in work for several months, and although she has not been seriously tested her track efforts have been encouraging, and indicate that she possesses a fair amount of speed. This filly is thriving well on the work she is doing and will be ready to race early in the new season.

ROTORUA HUNT. Nominations for the first totaliastor meeting of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club, to be held at Rotorua on Saturday, July 29, close with Messrs. Blomfield and Co., Shortland Street, Auckland, at 5 p.m. next Friday, or the secretary, Mr. E. LaTrobe Hill, Rotorua, at 9 p.m. on the same day. As this is the first permit the club has had owners and trainers are asked to give the meeting their best support. Stabling will be provided free.

DOING EASY TASKS. Since arriving at Ellerslie a few days ago Lord Val has been a regular attendant on the track, but has done nothing beyond easy pace work. The son of Valkyrian looks very" bright and healthy, and, judging by his present condition, should be in great order for the Relief meeting later on in the month. As Lord Val is a proved galloper in heavy going his new owner, Mr. A. H. Long, should soon earn some stakemoney with the brown gelding.

MAIDENS RESUME WORK. Two of the latest additions to the active brigade at Ellerslie are Supreme Ruler and the ■ rising three-year-old Chief Emerald, by Chief Ruler from Queen. Emerald. During his absence from the track Supreme Ruler has been doing light exercise around the roads and is in firstrate condition to undergo a solid preparation. Chief Emerald has grown into a big powerful-looking gelding, and the fact that he is carrying a lot of surplus condition will necessitate him requiring plenty of work before he is ready to race. Both these maidens come from a provd racing family and eventuall/ tnni sot yrelL <

GOOD RECENT FORM. Seatown ran two good races at the Great Northern meeting, finishing third in the Cornwall Handicap and coming from a long way back, in the York Handicap on the last day to score decisively. He carried 10.0 on that occasion and, with 10.5 in the Whyte Handicap at, Trentham on Tuesday, he should again give a good account of himself. He created a .surprise on this course last January when he won the Summer Handicap from a very strong field.

MAY IMPROVE. Gueress, who figures in the Matai Hack Steeplechase at Trentham, is a six-year-old mare by Callaghan from Deborah, by Martian from Hebrew .Maid. Prior to the Manawatu Hunt meeting last week .she had done no racing for a Jong time, having been a disappointment on the flat and over hurdles. In her only start over country she ran third to Pangolin and Mangani in the Morton Steeplechase last year. She is by the same sire as Callamait, who is also out of a, .Martian mare, ami she may turn out all right as a jumper.

A GOOD SPR3NTER. All Humbug has won over a mile and a quarter, but his victories otherwise have been secured in sprint events. Last season he won half a dozen six-furlong races, including the (amp Handicap at the Wellington summer meeting, running the distance with 8.8 on his back in 1.12. This season he won a mile and a quarter event, a seven furlongs and a quarter race, and two six-furlong sprints, while he has been placed on other occasions. He is engaged in the Stewards' Handicap at Wellington next Tuesday and he should run well.

TRENTHAM HURDLES CANDIDATE. High Falutin' was only put to hurdle racing a tew months ago, but he quickly made good, winning the Century Hurdles at Wanganui and the May Hurdles on the second day of the same meeting. At the recent meeting at Hastings, with 11.7, he ran third in the Hawke's Bay Hurdles, and he is to have his next outing in the Trentham Hurdles at the Wellington meeting next Tuesday, in which he has 10.5. Seeing his stablemate, Consent, lias been withdrawn from the event, High Falutin' should be in the picture at the finish.

YET TO BE BEATEN. The three-year-old West Tor, trained by B. Burgess at Opaki, is engaged in the To Aro Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Wellington meeting next Tuesday. This gelding, who was bred in Australia, lias only had three races, and has won the lot. He accounted for the Maiden Stakes, six furlongs, at the Mast erton meeting in October, and was not raced again till the Otaki meeting last month, when, on a heavy track, he won the Waitohu Handicap, nix furlongs, beating, among others. Foreign Queen and Slippery, and the Tajnui Handicap, of similar distance, on tftc second day. West Tor will have some support.

MAY AGAIN RUN WELL. Retract ran second in the Te Aro Handicap, seven furlongs, at the last Wellington winter meeting and on the second day won the Parliamentary Handicap, one mile and a quarter, beating Fast Passage by a length, while at the Grand National meeting Minerval beat him by a head in the Islington Handicap, one mile and a qarter, after a great battle over the last half furlong. Retract recently showed winning form at Otaki, annexing the Raukawa Cup, one mile and a quarter. He is engaged in the Whyte Handicap, one mile, at Trentham, next week and is in the Parliamentary Handicap on the second day. He may again go well.

BECOMING MORE CONFIDENT. Ridden by L. Dulieu in a trial over four flights of hurdles in company with Prince of Orange yesterday morning, Catoma gave a first-rate exhibition of jumping. He fenced quickly and cleverly, displaying more confidence than ever he has previously done, and appeared to relish his work. Since being first tried out as a jumper Catoma has made steady improvement, and although he has had little racing experience over hurdles his form has been most satisfactory for a beginner. He is also thriving on his preparation and is nowworking as well as ever he has done in the past. If Catoma maintains his present rate of progress a profitable future seems assured for him in jumping events.

NOT MAKING THE TRIP. Prince of Orange was not paid up for in the Trentham anil Winter Hurdles at the Wellington meeting and will not make, the trip to Trentham. There is nothing amiss with this jumper, who was schooled over four hurdles at headquarters yesterday and got through the task in a satisfactory manner. His next appearance will most likely be in the Glendowie Hurdle Race at the Relief meeting, to be held at Ellerslie on July 22, and he should be at the top of his form when that fixture arrives. Prince of Orange has been nominated for the Grand National Hurdle Race, to be run at Riccarton next month, and all going well in the interim lie will probably be among the contestants for that event.
