PROVINCIAL NEWS.

TAURANGA. Miss Cliannian Renshaw, of Tauranga, lias left on a visit to Gisborne, and is staying with Mrs. Broadhurst. Mrs. Kidd, of Te Kuiti, is paying a short visit to Tauranga. Mrs. Grey, of Eltham. has been spending the week-end in Tauranga. Mrs. Nassoor and Mrs. Stewart, of Auckland, have been staying in Tauranga for a few days. Miss P. Howden, of Waiuku, who has been in Tauranga for a few days as the guest of Mrs. Renshaw, has gone on to Cambridge, where she will stay with friends. HINUERA. A social evening was given to Miss Ita Cowcn. The evening was held in the Hinuera Hall. Mr. 0. Sweetruan supplied the music, and Mr. J. Pohlen, of Matamata, expressed the sentiments of those present towards the guest of the evening.

Thcro was a good attendance at the final card evening under the auspices of tho bowling and croquet clubs. The winners were Mrs. C. Scelly and Mr. W. Hollis, and consolation prizes went to Mrs. 15. Tisch and Mr. J. Dawson. The aggregate for the season was won by Mrs. 1. Black and Mr. R. Settle. TUAKAU. A successful year, with a credit balance of £5 10/, was reported at the annual meeting of St. Stephen's Presbyterian ladies' guild, Tuakau. Arrangements were made for the holding of a fete in the spring. Tho officers elected were: —President, Mrs. J. dimming; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Fulton, D. H. Mad ill, W. Glasgow, B. Westland and Cruickshank, sen.; secretary, Mrs. S. Lewis; treasurer, Mrs. Svveed, sen.; committee, Mesdames W. A. Sweed, H. B. Pendergrast, D. H. Heron, A. R. Stanton, J. Thomas and L. K. McGregor.

TE KUITI. A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised on June 2S at the residence of Mr. and -Mr*. J. Daniel, Te Kuiti, when Violet Emily, third daughter of Mrs. E. M. and the late Mr. P. Cotter, of Te, Kuiti, was married to Frederick John Lees, fourth eon of Mrs. A. and the late Mr. George Weston, of Te Kuiti, and late of Pukekohe. The bride, who was given away by lier brother, Mr. Brendon Cotter, looked charming in a frock of brown and autumn tinted woven material, with a smart hat to match. Her bouquet, tho ? ift of the bride's aunt, Mrs. B. Hart, of 7~nd, was of French marigolds and autumn leaves. She wae attended as matron of honour by her sister, Mrs. P. O'Rorke, who wore a smart woven frock of mustard and brown shades with hat to match. Her bouquet, also the gift of Mrs. Hart, was of bouvardias in delightful matching shades. The bridegroom was supported by Mr. George Cotter a« best man. The bride's mother wore black crepe de chine with an Astrakhan coat and black hat. and the bridegroom's mother wore black and white crepe de chine with black hat. After the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Father Dore, the happy couple left for thp north amid showers of confetti, the bride travelling in a coat with fur collar and hat to match. In the evening Mrs. Cotter entertained relatives and friends to a delightful party at her home. Musical and elocutionary items were rendered and heartily enjoyed by those present. Mr. and Mrs. Weston will make their home in Te Kuiti.

TE AWAMUTU. Miss S. Empson presided at the fortnightly social meeting of St. John's Girls' Club on Monday evening, when a feature of the programme was a oneact play entitled "The Stepvmother," presented bv Misses G. Westbrook, V. Holt, E. Jeffery and M. Hayes. The hostesses for the evening were Misses J. Manson, M. Cruickshank, M. Reilly and R. Sefton. Nurse McLeod, who has been district Plunket nurse with headquarters at Te Awamutu for the past four years or so, lias received extended leave and has joined the Waikato Hospital nursing staff to take a special course, after which it is understood she will resume her position at To Awamutu. Nurse Armstrong, from Opotiki, will carry out the duties of Plunket nurse in the Te Awamutu district. A gift evening, organised by the To Awamutu Oddfellows' Lodge, was given for Miss Beryl Roach. Dancing was indulged in and songs were rendered by Messrs. J. Grist and C. Ray, recitations by Misses Audrey Mairs and Mona O'Connor, and fancy dancing by Mr. A. W. Skinner. A waltz competition was won by Miss A. Roberts and Mr. E. Storey. Mrs. C. McDonald entertained a number of friends at a gift afternoon in honour of Miss Lilian Wallace. A competition was won by Mrs. Len Kay and Miss K. Kerr. Among those present were: Mesdames J. Wallace. J. Kay, F. Terry, MeDell. L. Kay, Whitfield, Misses B. and I. McDonald, E. Wallace, Ethel Wallace, .T. Orr, F. Kay, J. Christie, K. Kerr, E. Lawry and M. Lawry.
