AUCKLAND REFEREES' AFFAIRS.

At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association, a motion of condolence was passed to the chairman, Mr. A. Ball, in the death of his daughter, all members standing. Mr. L. Bull presided. In connection with the question of a ruling of a referee in a match between Richmond and Nortlicote on June 10, the junior management requested attendance of the referee at its meeting. The chairman reported that the executive of the association had upheld the referee, who was considered to have acted on a matter of fact and not of law.

On behalf of the grading committee, Mr. Saunders stressed the necessity of play-the-ball improvement. If a player's progress was stopped, whether he was on the ground or standing, lie was compelled to play the ball. The New Zealand Referees' Association insisted upon this interpretation. The official critic, Mr. J. T. Hill, was thanked for some candid and helpful comments on recent decisions. His suggestion for a series of lecturettes by nominated referees on specified rules, to be followed by open discussions, was adopted. Referees for Wednesday. — Domain: Messrs. H. Carroll and A. Stenerson. Victoria Park: Messrs. A. Simpson and

A. Rae. Line Umpires for Saturday.—No. 1 ground: Messrs. A. Rae and J. Gedye. No. 2 ground: Messrs. J. Stormont and C. Moovc.
