CAMPAIGN IN AUGUST.

QUEEN CONTEST ARRANGED.

A queen contest, in which several girls representing various sections of the community will compete for the honour of being elected queen of Prosperity Week, is one of the many attractions which will bo included in the Prosperity Week campaign. Under the patronage of the Mayor, Mr. 0. W. Hutchison, it will he held in the first week in August for the purpose of raising £10,000 to alleviate distress during the winter.

Committees for the queen contest will be formed to further the interests of each candidate, and sub-committees will be set up in every suburb. "One penny, one vote" will be the slogan. A "penny drive" will start the campaign. Circulars will be forwarded to every business house and office throughout Auckland inviting stall's to contribute one penny a week for six weeks of the campaign. Contributions from other sections of the community will be invited, and contributors will have the opportunity of allocating this fund as votes for their favourite candidate in the queen contest. Included in the activities will be competitions in which valuable prizes will bo offered. During Prosperity Week itself there will be a round of entertainments, ending with a ball in the Town Hall. Another feature will be the Mayoress' tea party for children.

With the idea of assisting business, there will be a mannequin contest, a window display contest and an advertising contest. Prizes will be offered for the best displays. A beauty contest and a dancing competition will be arranged and prizes will be awarded. Entry fees will again count as votes. Committees formed to work for queen candidates will have the opportunity of raising funds by way of bridge evenings, parties, dances, treasure hunts and concerts. To add interest to the campaign, the proceeds from all these private activities will be held in reserve until the closing date of the queen contest. Various Auckland charitable institutions will share in the total sum raised.
