Wethers ranged in price from 15/ to 10/6 for heavy prime lines, with lighter lots from 13/8 to 14/9.

Breeding ewes met with an unexpectedly keen demand, advancing in value by about 2/ per head. Two, four and six-tooth ewes, running with Southdown rams, made to 15/11; four and five-year ewes, to 10/0; two-tooth ewes, to 23/3; ewe lambs, to 13/; w.f. wether lambs, to 10/9; and forward wethers, to 13/.

For lines of run cattle the inquiry was improved, good Polled Angus steers making up to £4 14/; forward Polled Angus cows, to £2 4/; Polled Angus weancr steers, to 37/G; and Hereford ditto, to 30/.

Fat cattle showed no cliangc in prices, cows ranging from £3 to £4 4/ for the heaviest sorts, and from £1 10/ to £2 17/ for light lines. Heifers were priced at from £3 4/ to £4, while no heavy ox beef was entered. In all section.? of the sale, except for dairy stock, there was an improved tone. POVERTY BAY. BRIGHT FOR STORES. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") GISBORNE, this day. A further advance in the value of fat lambs and wethers was made at Matawhero sale yesterday, but ewes were inclined to bo a little easier, mainly on account of the poorer quality of the offerings. Best ewes made 10/7 to 11/2. others ranging from 7/8 to 0/10. A pen of prime Down lambs made 15/, others selling from 8/6 to 12/5, while wethers ranged from 11/ to 13/5. There was a bright sale for store sheep, a good class of hoggets being yarded and fetching higher prices. Ewes and wethers were sold at rates about on a par with last week. Ewes ranged from 7/11 to 9/2, wethers from 10/7 to 12/1, and hoggets from 7/10 to 10/5. Sheep for Auckland. An indication of the northern demand for sheep was contained in the fact that several more shipments from Gisborne and East Coast have been arranged.
