OCEAN RACES.

AUCKLAND-TAURANGA.

ALTERATIONS DISCUSSED. LOSS OF YACHT MIZPAH. (By Telegrapli.—Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, this day. The animal meeting of the Tauranga jßegatta Club was hekl last night, Mr. H. E. Okling presiding. I The president read the annual report 'and balance-sheet, which was presented bv the secretary, Mr. F. C. Warner. This disclosed that receipts for members' subscriptions fell from £103 to £39 12/0, and the social committee raised £:».' Donations showed a decrease of £8, while the net gate money last year was £13-3 18/5, against £84 in the previous year. About 1200 people travelled to Tauranga by train on_ regatta dav Entrance fees were practically on a par with last year. TV. a season showed a loss of £33, but the balance of assets over liabilities amounted to £95 </S. The subject of the annual ocean races from Auckland to Tauranga for the Colin Xorris Memorial Cold Cup and Clench trophy tvas discussed at length. Mr. Warner stated that, since the loss of the yacht Mizpah off the East Coast, the Marine Department had decided to tighten up the regulations regarding yachts going >to sea. This would probably mean that a number of yachts, if engaged in ocean races, would have carry s two dinghies and life-saving equipment. It was suggested that instead of ocean races from Auckland to Tauranga the club should make an appearance payment to each visiting yacht, and that two ocean races be held at Tauranga on the day following the annual regatta, and also that local and visiting yachts be permitted to compete for the two trophies referred to. A resolution was moved that a committee, with power to act, bo appointed to consider the question. Various speakers were strongly in favour of continuing the races, an:! others were in accord with Mr. Warner's

suggestion. Two additions—that the committee comprise Messrs. Carter, Lysaght, Oliver, Stewart and Warner, and that in the event of any alteration being proposed in respect to the conditions relating to ocean yacht races a general meeting of the club be called—were added to the motion, and in that form it was carried.
