BUS ROUTES.

TRAFFIC DANGERS.

REVIEW BY WO. 2 AUTHORITY. REQUEST? 3TCR ALTERATION. The contention that the route to the City Council's proposed bus tormina! on Ihe old railway station site is dangerous was upheld bv the No. 2 Liccu&ing Authority (Messrs. ,T. A. C. AUuiu ehairniaJi, E. C. Blonifield and T. Hamia), in giving its decisions in t':e applications lor renewals of a. number of licenses ibis morning. The authority renewed the p\-isting route, for a. number of services conducted by the Passenger Transport Co., Ltd., but emphasised that the decisions in no way dealt witli the omnibus stands. In announcing tho decisions the chairman stated: "The inward route of the bus services for which licenses have been granted is from Anzac Avenue, via Customs Street East, to Commerce Street, and the outward route from Commerce Street, via Fort Street to Anzac Avenue. The Auckland City Council requests that tho inward route shall be altered so that the buses will enter the city from Anzac Avenue, via Britomart Place. Quay Street, Queen Street and the roadway between the Chief Post Office and En<lean's Buildings, to a point on the old railway eitc, and leave via Commerco Street East. "This proposal,'' the chairman added, ' has been keenly opposed both by the omnibus proprietors and the Railways Department, as owners or' the old railway site. Evidence lias been submitted to show that the suggested alternative will impose traffic dangers both to tlic travelling public and the pedestrians, and will also cause inconvenience to the former. No evidence has be.m adduced to combat these objections, and from our own knowledge, an l inspection of the routes, we arc satisiicd that liio objections must be sustained. "It is clearly to be understood that wo arc dealing with the route the omnibuses must traverse., and our decision in no way deals with omnibus stands."
