(Itcecivcd 12.:;o p.m.) LOXDOX, June 11. 3he manoeuvres behind the scenes in connection with the World Economic Conference have already begun. "The Sun" learns (hat important meeting's were held at Ihe Treasury between Mr. Montagu Norman, Mr. Harrison, ot: the federal Reserve Bank, M. Moreni, ot! (he Bank o£ France, with expert advisers. • They began on Saturday and continued throughout Sunday. It is reported that they are endeavouring to roach a temporary stabilisation truce between the pound in relation to tho dollar, and the franc in relation to the pound, and to submit a.fait accompli at the opening of the conference. To-day's comings and goings to Downing Street were surrounded in secrecy. Some Ministers were hastily summoned to No. 10 to-night, following a dispatch from Washington. Sir John Simon, who was recuperating at he Touquct, was recalled. He returned per special aeroplane and went immediately to Xo. 10. Tho delegates' invasion of London continued all day, many arriving by air. Dr. Dolfuss (Austria) travelled in his own 'plane. A Fascist bodyguard greeted Signor Ciano and other Italians at. Croydon. "Tho Times," in a leader, says that tho conference must not be allowed to fail. They must see the world on the way to recovery if the nations do not lose all faith in the capacity of their statesmen. The diiliculties are not insuperable. Tho responsibility of the delegates is clear and inescapable, and with good will and determination, they certainly can discharge it.
