INCREASED SHIPMENTS,

CANTERBURY RECORD.

A fresli record has been set by Canterbury in connection with the export of apples and pears this season. Growers have dispatched overseas a total of 57,291 cases, as compared with approximately 30,000 cases exported in the previous best season of 1931. Last year extensive damage was done by hail and frosts, and the exports consisted of 14,000 cases only. Record Otago Shipments. During the past export season Otago set a new'record for the export of fruit. The total for 1933 was 160,259 cases, as against the previous record of 100,508 eases in 1930. These -figures show an increase of 59,751 cases. All the fruit was of good size and quality, and it is hoped that the increase in exports will make up for the loss suffered last season on account of frosts* These figures were quojted at the mid-season: meeting of the Otago Provincial Fruitgrowers.

BLENHEIM, Saturday. , [ The fruit export' season just closed was a record one for Marlborough, the total output being nearly 73,000 cases, an increase of 12,000 cases over the previous season. In 1023 the district exported 5900 cases, but in the two succeeding seasons the quantity fell, the 1924 total being 4000 and the 1925 total 2200 cases. Since 1926, however, the figures have gone up in some years by leaps and bounds.
