AUCKLAND CLUB

flie -winter competition of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club -were held on Saturday on the Avondale racecourse, when the annual cross-country race between the cyclists and the Harriers was held. The cyclists, although in the minority, sained an easy victory over the runners, the score (lowest wins) being cyclists 22, harriers 45. The usual sprint and field events were also held, M. P. Byrnes, on the 11yds mark, winning the 75yds sprint. It. Owsley,, with a putt of 35ft 9in wirinincr the shot putting, and N. Clark,'ll7ft Hill, the discus throwing competition. HARRIERS V. CYCLISTS. The annual cross-country race between the runners and cyclists of the club proved a very close go, the cyclists gaining the honours. The course was from starting point, opposite the judge's box on the racecourse, going off at' the western end of the course down hill and across an arm of the Whau River, thence across main road and through Crumm's brickworks, and continuing across country for a mile and a half past the Blue Cross Hospital and through the Titiraugi golf links, past the tanneries and over the railway and adjacent fields, and back via the main road at the bus company's corner, finishing on the racecourse; distaince, seven miles and a half. A good start was made at 3U 13, over 40 harriers competing against: six cyclists. The clubs represented were Auckland, University and Wesley Harriers and Auckland Cyclists. The finish saw four of the six cyclists in the lead. The times were: R. Linn (A.), 43.15, 1: Arvlndson (A.), 43.30, 2; Hogan (A.). 43.40, 3; Keith (A.), 44.35, 4; Allen (A.) 47.23, 5;.; Plnsou (A.), 47.10, 6; Hooper (V.), 47.10. 7. Jelly (V.), Mills (A.), Sanders (A.), Clark (V.), Cooksey (A.), finished in this order. The score waa (lowest points win); Auckland Club's cyclists, 22 points, won from combined barriers, 45 points. At the conclusion the president, Mr. "W. Morton referred to the fact that Mr. W. Stewart, the oldest active member of the club, was 07 years' old that day, and on behalf of the club lie wished him many happy returns and presented Mr. Stewart with an appropriate souvenir of the occasion. . w
