RUNNING RISKS.
CARS NOT RE-REGISTERED. MAGISTRATE'S WARNING. GISBORNE, this day. The fact that motorists who have neglected to re-register their care are running a serious risk, since there is no cover in case of accident, was emphasised in the Magistrate's Court, when several offenders were charged with driving unregistered cars. "If the driver of an unregistered car has an accident involving injury, tho injured persons will be deprived of their remedy under the Third Party Risks Act," commented the magistrate. "For this reason it is absolutely necessary that unregistered cars should be kept off the road." Senior Sergeant Wade said instructions had been issued that all drivers of unregistered cars should be prosecuted after June 1, but ten days' grace had been allowed —"so they can't say that we've been hard on them." Penalties of £1 wore imposed in cases where ears were not registered, and 10/ in cases where new plates had not been affixed.
