"THANKS FOR THE TIP."
BURGLAR'S NOTE IN OFFICE,
When the State coal office in Christchurch was locked up 011 Saturday for the week-end a note was left on the safe stating that it was open and that its contents did not include cash (savs the "Star"). The officials who took this precaution proved to be wise, as on their arrival at the office 011 Monday morning they found another note. This one was from a burglar. Tt read: "Thanks for the tip.—Yours, 'Bill Sykes.'" Not having to expend any effort on the opening of the safe, the burglar apparently had plenty of time to search the office in the hope of finding money or valuables in the desks and cupboards. Papers strewn over the floor indicated that he had tho"f-"Tilly ransacked the place before giving up his quest. He was unrewarded and left the office through the window that he had forced up to gain an entrance.
