EMPIRE BALL.

The Empire Ball, which is held by the Victoria League-tb commemorate Empire Day, took place at Scots Hall last evening.. Miss Daphne Knight trained the sets for the minuet, which was danced with grace, precision and perfect rhythm. The girls were in blue, gold and green glace silk period frocks, and the men - wore old world lace ruffles and coloured lapels on their coats to match. 1 The hall was decorated with loops of huge pink roses, caught at intervals with wide turquoise blue Empire bows, and the stage was a sylvan bower of palms and feathery greenery. The orchestra supplied a special number, "The Empire Waltz," arranged by Mrs. Reg. Morgan. Their Excellencies, the Governor-General Lord Bledisloe and Lady Bledisloe, attended the ball, her Excellency wearing a pastel pink tulle, inset with godets of gold sequins, and a gold and blue brocade wrap, with white'fos fur collar. Mrs. G. C. -.Veal wore opalesque blue crushed velvet; Miss Diana Harris v.-as in ivory georgette. Their Excellencies were received by Miss J. A. Mowbray, president of the Victoria League, who wore a gown of black mirror velvet. Mrs. Rickerby's set wore apple green taffeta, made with pointed bodices with flame rose and corsages and flamecoloured fans and underskirts of lace. It consisted of Misses M. Cruicksliank, E. Lincoln; K. Spriggs, K. Gilbert, M. Wallace, R. Hill, N. Paterson, N. Gray. Mies M. Cerutty's set wore parma violet and pink, with white lace ruffles and mittens, and consisted of Misses M. Dransfield, M. McCullock, E. Adkins, M. Beveridge, B. Suter, A. Suter, M. O'Neill. Mrs. H. S. Gulliver's set was dressed iu Victorian dresses of sunset taffeta, with panniered skirts,.gold lace bertlies, black mittens and black fans. It consisted of Misses M. Gulliver, J. Land, M; Hamlin, R. and B. Poole. F. Edmonds, G. Henderson, P. Kennel*. Mrs. A. Bullock's set wore frocks of waterlily green taffeta, made with pointed bodices and deep silver lace berthes, panniers on full skirt, with true lovers' knots in silver.
