MAORI BISHOP.
SEItMON \£ ST. MAAY'S. Many Maoris were included in the large congregation at St. Mary's Cathedral last evening, when Bishop Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, was the preacher. Portion of his address was given in both Maori and English, and the lessons were read in English, by the Bev. W. N. Panapa, and in Maori by the Bev. T. T. Poihipi. Taking as his text, "Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters." Bishoip Bennett said that it was peculiarly fitting to the British Empire. "We are all members of this great Empire," he said. "Its flag floats proudly over the seven seas. The very centre of it is the blood-stained Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. May! it be translated to the hearts and minds of all."
Describing the activities of the Maori Mission, he said that the Maoris realised the importance of the Church to their welfare, and that all over New Zealand new members were being received.
The cathedral choir sang the cantata "0 God, the King of Glory," the soloists being Miss E. Coleman and Mr. H. Davis. A special hymn was sung by a Maori choir.
