FINAL 'VARSITY TEST.
EASY N.Z. VICTORY. A MARCrIN OF 30 POINTS. CAUG-HEY SCORES FOUR TRIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. By scoring 10 tries, seven of .which were converted, the New Zealand University fifteen overwhelmed the Australian Universities' team by 44 points to B—a goal from a try and an unconverted try—in the third Test match at Lancaster Park yesterday. The ground was heavy after a week's rain, but otherwise the conditions were ideal for football. The Australian forwards were as good as the New Zealand pack in tight work, but the visitors' backs did not tackle well. They showed enterprise in passing at times, but their attack lacked thrust, and several times it seemed that their showy ■passing had little useful effect. The New Zealand back division controlled the game from the outset, and early in the first spell established a commanding lead. Caughey, at centre three-quarter, was the pivot of the New Zealanders' attack. He scored two tries himself in the first spell, and gave another to Millikcn on the wing. Alilliken also scored another try after shaking off a weak tackle. Australia's first try came at the cud of the first spell, when, by daring passing, the team made its Hist strong drive. It was arrested in the ~'cw Zealand twentylive, but there Roes made a dash, and in l'ront of the goal he passed to JMackey, who scored between the posts. The halftime score was: New Zealand 20, Australia 5.
In the second spell tries were scored by Caughey (2), Rae, Andrews and Dunne (2). The Australians' second try was almost a solo effort by Rowe, playing at the time as five-eighths. It was the best run of the match, being a swerve infield, and then a dash past the centre and fullback.
The first seven of New Zealand's tries were' converted, five by Bush, and tivo by Rao. Weetiield kicked Australia's only goal.
