MOTOR TRUCKS.
REGULATIONS IRKSOME. FARMERS' UNION PROTEST. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Tlie North Canterbury Farmers' Union conference carried a resolution to-day as follows: "That this conference absolutely opposes any attempt to regulate motor trucks off the road. Recent regulations are harsh, unnecessary, and ineffective in securing reductions in transport costs. We are convinced that if road transport is to be required to bear all of its own costs, including the cost of roads on which it runs, competition will decide without the interference of irksome regulations the most efficient means of transport much more effectively than any board. The present system of subsidising road transport from county rates is preventing the full operation of economic forces in this respect."
