SHARP RISE IN EGGS. HEAVY SUPPLIES OF POTATOES. TAURANGA KUMARAS CHEAP. Oranges from Cook Islands came to hand last evening. Lemons are still meeting with strong demand for good quality fiuit. Ripe bananas are in short supply, and prices advanced in consequence. Apples are in fair demand, as also are dessert pears, but cooking varieties meet with poor inquiry. Good lines of mushrooms sell well. Supplies are falling off. Quotations are:— Fruit. Tlio market is still glutted with potatoes, large supplies having been sent in from Ohakune, Rangitikei, the South Island, as well as by local growers. Big quantities of kumaras have come to hand from Tauranga and sold at unusually low prices. Cabbage and cauliflower are in fair supply, and lettuce meets with good demand. Onions are now selling a little better,- but pumpkins are hard to clear. Fair quantities of Brussels sprouts came to hand this week and sold well.

Quotations are:— Potatoes. 1/ to 3/ bag; swedes, 1/ to 1/6 bag; onions, 1/0 to 3/ bag; kmnaras, 1/ to 2/3 bag; cabbages, 2/6 to 5/6 sack; on I benches, l/ to 3/ dozen; cauliflowers, 4/ to 10/ sack; on benches, 1/ to 7/ dozen; pumpkins, 1/ to 5/ cwt; cucumbers, 2/ to 4/ dozen; carrots, 4d to 7d dozen; par; snips, 9d to 1/3 dozen; beet, 6d dozen; turnips, 6d dozen; radish, 6d dozen; spring onions, 6d to Sd bundle; spinach, 6d to 8d dozen; leeks. Id to 4d bundle; green peas. 3/ to 10/ bag; French beans, jl/ to 7/ bag; marrows, 1/ to 3/ dozen: melons, 2/6 to 4/ cwt: lettuce. 1/ to 4/ case; celery, cooking 6d to lOd bundle, dessert 1/ to 1/8 bundle; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/ dozen. Scarcity of Eggs. Another advance'has taken place in the price of eggs of all grades. This is due to shortage of supplies all over New Zealand. Quotations are: —First grade hen eggs, 2/4% per dozen; B grade. 2/1%; and C grade, 1/10%. First grade duck eggs, 2/2%; B grade, 2/0%; and C grade, l/ 10% per dozen. Farmers' butter, 7d to 9d per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of ooultry was heavy, and the demand was fair. The prices paid show a falling tendency in old birds. Selling rates were as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 2/0 to 4/ each, not prime 1/0 up; light breeds, •prime 1/9 to 2/6, not prime 1/ up. Far. roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/6 to 2/; light breeds, 1/ to 1/6. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/3 to 1/9; light breeds, 9d to 1/6.
