RUGGER FEAST.

UNIVERSITY TEST. THREE senior grade games. BIG DAY AT EDEN PARK. The Rugby programme to-morj:ow prorides for one of the biggest treats of the 1933 season, for in addition to three fcnior competition matches the Australian Universities fifteen will try conclusions with New Zealand in the first of the three Tests on the visitors' itinerary. The second will he played at Dunedin on May 27 and the third' at Christchurcli on June 3. After their fine showing in the opening came of the tour on Wednesday, when it is doubtful if 'Varsity had any real superiority over the Australians in their 07__23 victory, the touring side will no doubt be considered to have a very fine chance of drawing first blood in the Test rubber. It is not likely that the Dominion students will combine so well for a start as did the Aucklanders, while the Australians will be greatly improved by their hard try-out on Wednesday. They have made only one change, MeWilliam replacing Spring in the vanguard. Regret will be felt at the inability of lan Turner (a cousin of Dr. Kenneth Mackenzie and Mr. Clutha Mackenzie) to take his place on the Australian right win", especially as his fellow Melbournian substitute is really the reserve full-back. Turner is reputed to be the fastest man on the side. Notes on the Australian players appeared in Wednesday's "Star," and a few lines on the personnel of New Zealand's Southern representatives may be of interest:— Dunne.— Wing three-quarter, Otago University. A very fast and tricky runner and a good handler. He has scored many tries this season. Represented Otago University at University boxing championships at Easter. Fookes.—Second five-eighth, Otago University. Toured Australia with last N.Z.U. team. Selected for South Island 1031. Old boy of New Plymouth Boys' High School, and is a member of a wellknown l'aranaki football family. Clever attacking player. Is Otago skipper and may lead All Blacks to-morrow.

Uttley.—ls Otago University's centre, and replaces (J. G. Gillies as first fiveeighth, who could not come to Auckland from Dunedin. Whether in the altered circumstances Uttley or Fookes will play in No. 1 position, or vice-versa, will not be decided until after to-day's pradtiee. If Fookes be shifted his logical successor at No. 2 is Mulvihill, and it seems absurd j for the sole selector to bring in a threequarter, on the ground of keeping the j Otago inside combination together, when a champion five-eighth could have been utilised without the cost of sending along a player from the far end of New Zealand, particularly after the additional cost for train fares the council had to face through the shipping trouble causing the Australians to be landed at Wellington instead of at Auckland. Rae.—Half-back, Otago University. Fast and nippy. Played for Otago Boys High School. Has ,%een playing good football in Dunedin this season. Diedrich.—Forward, Victoria College. Played for Wellington reps, for some seasons. Considered the beet forward in the N.Z.U. team which toured Australia unbeaten in 1931. Weight about 13.6. Edwards—Hooker, Victoria College. Played for the A.U.C. in 1930, 1931 and toured Australia with N.Z.U. team 1931. Weight about 13.8. A tireless worker. Learned his football at Auckland Grammar School. Andrews—Forward, Canterbury . College player. Represented' Canterbury and South Island last year. Is fine loose forward.' • "" ' ' T

Hartnell.—Forward, Canterbury College. Formerly played for Otago. Ie a well- i known boxer and oarsman, : Hamilton. —-Forward, Otago University. , A very hard worker. Excels in tight play \ and handles well in the loose. Wells — Forward, Victoria College. Weight 13.3. Represented North Auckland last season. A fine all-round vanguardsman. The remaining half-dozen All Blacks are Aucklanders. The curtain-raiser will be supplied by the Grammar Schools Old Boys and Marist Old Boys senior championship fifteens. There are also two other senior competition games scheduled to be played at Eden Park at half-past one:—'Varsity (minus its seven New Zealanders, including Mulvihill) meets Otahuhu, and Ponsonby engages College Rifles. The Showground match is between Grafton and Technical Old Boys at three o'clock. Teams announced AUSTRALIA, (White with Blue and Gold Stockings.) Full-back.—R. Westfield (Sydney). Three-quarters.—E. A. H. Laurie (Melbourne), C. R. Lowndes (Melbourne), D. P. Rowe (Sydney), A. K. Kennedy (Sydney). Five-eighth.—H. Rees (Sydney). Half-back.—H. H. Pearson (Sydney). Forwards.—R.
