WOMEN KILLED.

SMASH ON CROSSING, ACCIDENT IN THE WAIKATO. CAR AND TRAIN COLLIDE. vj (Br Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. Head injuries from which she died within half an hour were received by Emma Jones, aged 34 years, wife of Mr, Narkett Jones, farmer, of Manaia, Taranaki, when a motor car collided with the Frankton-Cambridge train on a crossing at Matangi, about -4.30 yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Jones was a passenger in a motor car which was driven by Mr. J. J. Patterson, of Manaia, who escaped, with minor facial cuts and shock. An inquest into the death of Mrs, Jones was opened to-day, and adjourned, after evidence of identification had been taken. Mr. Patterson, who owns dairy farms at Manaia, and also "near Morrinsville, was travelling from Taranaki to liia Waikato property. His only passenger was Mrs. Jones, who intended visiting her sister at Te Aroha. Mrs. Jones ia survived by her husband and two young children. It is understood that the car waa struck with terrific force on the near side, close to tlie front seat, where Mrs, Jones was sitting. The wrecked car was carried about 20yds on the cowcatcher of the engine. The train waa stopped promptly, and the two injured people were extricated from the wreckage. A doctor was called, but Mrs. Jonea died before she could be removed. Mr. Patterson was not sent to hospital.
