LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND AFFAIRS. THE CHAIRMAN'S AMBITIONS. INTERPROYIXCIAL MATCHES. "My aim is, as far as this league is concerned, that we should build up to a standard in order to beat New South Wales, Queensland, and even Australia, as Xew Zealand • did with its first teams against England as well," said Mr. G. Grey Campbell, chairman of the Auckland Rugby League, at the meeting last evening. He added that the fine play provided by the seniors this season was a great encouragement toward that objective and the clubs could rely on the fullest co-operation of the League in their teambuilding to help the selectors. A letter from South Auckland, holders of the Northern Union Challenge Cup, expressing a willingness to play in Auckland, was received by the board, which decided to make formal application for a fixture early in August, the match, if possible, to involve the cup. The Ilawke's Bay League advised that the standard of senior play in that province had improved out of all sight, many new players were appearing and it was certain a strong representative side could be fielded. It was decided to suggest September 30 as a suitable date for a match with the Bay rep. team. The date, June 10, for the match with Taranaki at Auckland, was confirmed. Mr. J. Rukutai suggested that the Auckland representative team should be chosen and two trial teams picked to plav. Transfers were granted as follow: —R. E. Keesing and E. Malier, Ellerslie United to Ponsonby United. It was decided to place on record the good services given by Mr. J. 11. Eddowes as a late member of the board. Mr. F. Flannagan wrote accepting the position of official masseur to the Rugby League. . SATURDAYS ENGAGEMENTS. Senior.—Newton v. Marist, Carlaw Park Xo. 1, 3 p.m., Mr. V. 'Simpson : Richmond v.
