AT TAKANINI.

GREEK GOLD AND HOLLY LU. BOTH SPRINT FAST. The weather was fine at Takanini this morning. The outside grass was open for fast work, but the going was holding. Greek Gold and Holly Lu were responsible for the beet effort of the morning, running five furlongs in 1.3 2-5. Greek Gold was going the better of the pair at the finish. Revelation covered six furlongs in 1.23. Tatyoon just beat Principal over a mile in 1.48. Kind Words and Bugle Call were to have gone five furlongs, but went past the disc before they jumped off. They registered 52 3-5s for the last half-mile, both working well. Royal Artist jumped away at the sevenfurlong post, being picked up by Speedmint at the five. The full distance was covered in 1.32, the last five furlongs taking 1.4 3-5. Royal Artist seems to be handling the ground in better style of ■late. The Hiker worked over a mile and a half, the pace being clapped on over the last half-mile, where he was picked up by Substation, the latter distance being covered in 545. They finished together. K. Voitre will not be at Te Rapa on Saturday, but will be there on Monday. A. Tinker will rider Diversion, and may probably be on Royal Artist. It is as yet undecided whether Speedmint will start in the President's Handicap or the Stewards' Handicap at Te Rapa on Saturday. TEA TRADER LAME. SPECIAL RACE CANCELLED. SAN" FRANCISCO, May 16. A message from San Bruno, California, states that the special race' between Tea Trader and Sun Dot, which had been fixed for Saturday, was cancelled to-day owing to the New Zealand horse pulling up lame after a work-out. Colossical, who is engaged in the Otorohanga Handicap, six furlongs, at Te Rapa on Saturday, is a three-year-old gelding by Colossus from Brightly, by Gazeley from Morie, by Mahaki from Maude, the dam of Mahutonga. Colossical raced several times earlier in the season without getting into the money, but at the recent Wairarapa meeting he accounted for the Maiden Hack, seven furlongs, with 8.7, running the distance in 1.28.
