TRACK GALLOPS.

! PREPARING FOR TE RAPA. SEVERAL SMART EFFORTS. TARPORLEY AND CHIEF COOK IMPRESS. There was a fair amount of galloping at Ellerslie this morning in view of the Te Kuiti meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday, all the fast work being done on the No. 2 grass track. The going was in good order and several smart efforts were recorded. Hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper t and the steeplechase course was also open. No. 2 Grass. Wee Prince was first out, traversing a round in 1.40 4-5, Teremai accompanying him over the last five furlongs, which she ran in 1.8 3-5. Taliae Mea and Hushing were sent five furlongs, running the first two in 25 2-ss, and the full distance in 1.5. Both worked well, and there was little between them at the finish. Manawhenua, Taneriri, Gay Broney and Spirit were associated over seven furlongs, running the distance in 1.31, the first half-mile being covered in 51 l-ss. Mahkill went with them over the last six furlongs, which were run in 1.18 4-5. Manawhenua was a shade in front of Taneriri, with Grand Spirit foil the inside) close up. Gay Broney and -Mahkill being several lengths away. Gay Broney was giving away a lot of weight. Gold Money was given an easy six furlongs, which occupied 1.25 2-5, and Court Haven was timed to run her last five furlongs in 1.7. After Breakfast. Gay Marigold and Supreme Ruler, after running their first two furlongs in 25 l-ss, completed five furlongs in 1.5 1-5. Gay Marigold impressed most, though Supreme Ruler also shaped well. Over a similar distance Imamint showed to more advantage than Notamint, the time 1 being 1.6 2-5. Searcher was going comfortably while running half a mile in 55 2-ss, and Hawthorn got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7 4-5. He finished on well. Wee Pat beat Patutahi over a round in 1.52 2-5, the last half-mile taking 55 3-ss. The stablemates Master Briefly and King March were together at the end of seven furlongs run in 1.33 4-5. The last six furlongs took 1.20 and the final half-mile 53 2-ss. Master Brierly was doing his work well at the finish, and King March also pleased. Sunny Sky, after running her first three furlongs in 42 2-ss, was going comfortably to run six furlongs in 1.25. She was slightly lame after working, and apparently ricked herself. One of the best sprints of the morning was registered by Chief Cook and Tarporley, who beat United over half a mile in 50 4-ss. The first-named pair were on terms at the finish, Chief Cook doing his work well. Kiltowyn ran home from the three-furlong post in 37 l-ss—a smart effort. Caliente worked steadily over a round, taking 57s for the last four furlongs. The Northern Hurdles candidate, Prince of Orange, was responsible for a first-rate effort over a round, running the distance in 1.46 3-5. The last six furlongs took 1.20 1-5. and the final half-mile 54 l-ss. He did his work particularly well. Kawini, Billy Boy and King Comet traversed a round in 1.52 3-5, finishing as named. Escalus went with them over the last seven furlongs, which took 1.38 2-5, and Aspect, who joined them at the half-mile post, led them home in 54 3-ss.

The Jumpers. On the course proper Catoma (Fergus), Bright Flower (Baker), Trislina (H. Dulieu) and Tetrarchate (Craddock) were companions over four hurdles. Catoma jumped big at the first obstacle, nearly unseating his rider, who made a good recovery, and Tetrarchate came to grief at the second fence. Catoma then took charge, finishing in front of Bright Flower and Trishna. Bright Flower and Catoma both shaped well. Tetrarchate was remounted, but baulked at the third fence, though he cleared the last in good style. Kawini (Olive) gave a safe display over the steeplechase fences on the flat. Neil (Chaplin), Zane- Grey (H. Dulieu), Absent (Fergus) and Grant's Opal (Baker) were associated in a school over the steeplechase course. The first-men-tioned pair led throughout, finishing on terms over the brush fence by the mile po6t. Neil gave a good display, and Zane Grey's effort was also an impressive one, as it was his first experience over the country. Absent was kept back with Grant's Opal, both jumping well, the latter showing promise for a novice. Prince of Orange and Trishna are due to leave for Te Rapa to-da.v, and Mahkill, Gay Broney and Tarporley depart tomorrow morning. So far nothing definite has been decided as to whether Billy Boy will make the trip.
