SHIELD FOR AUCKLAND SIR GEORGE GREY'S ARMS. CARVED BY RELIEF WORKER. A shield.bearing the arms of Sir George Grey, the great pro-consul, who was Governor of New Zealand in the 'fifties, has been carved from a solid piece of jarrah by a relief worker engaged on the Cashmere Hills, Christchurch. This shield has been handed by Mr. H. G. Ell to Mr. P. R. Climie, organiser of the Canterbury Progress League, with the intention that it shall be presented to the Auckland
Museum. The carving ,of the simple emblem of the lion rampant surmounted by a star has been excellently carried out. The figure of the lion has been painted a silver colour against a deep red background. Mr. Ell has asked Mr. Climie to show this skilled piece of workmanship to members of the Unemployment Board before sending it on to Auckland.
