MINISTER IMPRESSED.
DEVELOPMENT OF NORTH. Another Minister to be impressed with the developmental possibilities of tho North Auckland district is the Hon. A. Hamilton, Minister of Employment, who returned to Auckland from Dargaville last night. In the opinion of the Minister the North offers great opportunities to those who wish to take up farming as their occupation in life. Gratification was expressed by Mr. Hamilton in an interview this morning that quite a number of unemployed were engaged on drainage work in the Dargaville Flats, which, properly developed, could carry a substantial population, closely settled. Another promising area capable of development under the small farms plan was the Whangarei Harbour fiats. Useful road-making work was being done by unemployed labour, which was engaged also on drainage operations. Generally speaking, the relief canips visited were rough and ready, but they wero suitable for tho conditions obtaining. Under the circumstances the men seemed fairly well provided for. Mr. Hamilton will leave this evening for Wellington. 1
