HIGHLAND DANCING.
• Tam very interested in Highland and national dancing, and have listened to •Z a few discussions on the subject, flare not yet learned whether the Vaidit kneo or tho bent knee is Sitional. Tolly McLaren is credited lift stating that both styles are cort vet Dan McKecknio danced with Ithint knee; and ho and Hugh Me Tionald (another bent kneo exponent) ™L> claimed as tho best of their day. w is said that Polly McLaren introduced the straight knee dancing in Auckland about 20 years ago, and there is in doubt as to her ability as a dancer, hirt what I want to know is which of the two styles j is strictly traditional, y, W Gibson; who officiated as judge when Hugh McDonald gained the decision over Pan McKecknic for tho New Zealand championship, told me that the Lit knee was tho correct method. Another thing tlia.t I have noticed is that quite a number of French steps have hecome mixed up in the- Highland fling, and in my opinion is making oar good old Scotch dance too theatrical. I therefore think that tho time has come for a conference to be called of the leading lights in tho Highland dancing societies to determiue the correct step and styles to be danced at all compctitioni I£Q.
