WINTER RACING.

THE WANGANUI MEETING. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW. THE FIELDS REVIEWED. The Wanganui Jockey Club will open their winter meeting to-morrow, and though the fields are not large in some instances there is plenty of material for good racing. Rata Hack Handicap. In the Kata Hack Handicap Plateau, who performed well earlier in the season, heads the acceptors, but he has not raced for some time. If at his best he should be troublesome. Ida Merling was thir-l over six furlongs at Manawatu last March, while Pango ran a good race over seven furlongs at Egmout, when Fairway just beat him by a head. Lalla Quex was second to Slippery over a similar distance at the same fixture. Nebulae showed ijood form at Marton during the summer, where he won two events in one day. Arastar and Thrasher look the best of the otheis. Those that may be fancied are PANGO IDA MERLING LALLA QUEX.

Balgownie Hack. In the Balgownie Hack Handicap Fairway, the top-weight, in his last two starts won over a mile and 137 yards at Morton and also over seven furlongs at Egmout. He should again show up. Grand Latin was second.and third respectively over a inLle and a distance at Pahiatua after winning two high-weight events of similar distance at Woodvillc. Attentive won over seven furlongs and nine furlongs respectively in one day at Opunake, and Capetown was second in two mile events at Wairarapa. Davistock was a good third to Gibraltar and Seatown in the Davidson Handicap, one mile and a distance, at Egmont last Saturday week. Beaconsfieid and Tentcall may be the pick of the remainder. Most money may go on FAIRWAY DAVISTOCK ATTENTIVE.

Century Hurdles. They are not a very good Jot in the Century Hurdles. Consent won his first hurdle race at the recent Egmont meeting and should be improved. Invictus was second to him. and Callamart third. Both the latter are also engaged. Henry of Navarre has not raced for some time, but is a useful sort. High Falutin' was fourth on tue first day at Egmont and finished second to Ganpat on the concluding day. He as improving. Adventus was second to Invictus at Feuding, after running fourth on the first day. Ganpat has been scratched. View Halloo, after running second in, the Manchester Handicap, one mile and a quarter at Feilding last month, won the Easter Handicap, one mile and a distance, on the second day with 9.4, scoring by seven lengths. On that showing he will again be hard to beat, for he is good on a soft track. Chopin was second to Arrow Lad over a mile and a quarter anil nine furlongs respectively at the Wafrarapa. meeting at Easter. Aga Khan was successful in the Mcßae Handicap, one mile and a quarter, at Egmont recently and he should again go well. .Beacon Fire is returning to his best form, while Little Doubt is also improving. Princess Bell has performed very consistently recently, being .in the money in her last six starts, including a second in the Waipukurau Cup, one mile and a quarter, and third in ;the Presidents Handicap, of similar distance, at Hawke's Bay.
