REVOLVER SHOTS.
FIRED THROUGH WINDOW. YOUNG MAN" SENTENCED. Found guilty of intimidating by night, and of procuring possession of i a firearm by way of trespass, Colin Alfred Jensen was sentenced this morning to a period of reformative detention not exceeding two years on the first count, and convicted and ordered to come Tip for sentence if called upon within two years on the second. The prisoner ihad, on the night of March 26 last, gone to the house of a family named Broad, near Tβ Puke, and fired two shots from a revolver through a window into the kitchen where the family were having supper. Mr. Finlay, for the prisoner, said the jury had apparently taken two views of the caee, one that the act was irresponsive arid unconsidered, and the other that the act might have been attended with disastrous results. Counsel asked the Court to take a middle view. Jeneen was only 25 years of age, had had only a fifth standard education, and had lived liis life in the outbacks. There was his broken romance with a girl, broken by talk which had taken place. Mr. Justice Smith eaid the prisoner had gone to the house and fired the two shots through the window. It was a very serious offence. "The probation officer's report does not induce me to take a very light view of your offence," said his Honor, who added that in January last prisoner Bad taken a revolver belonging to his employer, gone to Morrinsville, where lie reported he had sustained an accident, and received f9 ae accident insurance. He had then been treated leniently.by the Court and admitted to probation for two, years. "And on March 26 you commit the preeenfc offence," said his Honor. "In the circumstances I am unable to take a lenient view of the case."
