BETTER FOR HIDES.

ADVANCE IN PRICES. SHEEPSKINS ALSO FIRMER. At the fortnightly sale of skins, hides and tallow held at Parnell to-day there was a further advance in the price of hides, which are now at a higher level than has been reached since the slump set in. To-day'e increase over last eale was approximately %d per lb for ox hides and %d for cow hides. Sheepskins were also firm with late rates fully maintained. The range of prices was as follows, the letter P indicating that the line wae passed at the figures ehowu: — Sheepskins— Dry: Tine crossbred, to SVid per lb; coarse crossbred, 29id; medium crossbred, 3 a /4d; half to threequarter wool, 2%d: short to half wool, 2%d; quarter wool, 2%d; lambs, 4%d; pelte, l%d. Salted: Best, 2/1 to 2/8 each; good, 1/7 to 2/; medium, 1/ to 1/6. Hides. —Abattoirs: Extra heavy ox, to 5%d per lb; heavy, 5%d; medium, sd; light, 5%d; extra heaw cow, 4%d; heavy, sd; medium, 5%d; light, 5%d; yearlings, 5d (P); best calf, 6%d; good, 5%d (P). Country butchers: Extra heavy ox, 4%d (P); heavy, 4d (P); .medium, 4%d(P); light 4*/ id; extra heavy cow, 4%d; heavy, 4%d; medium, 4%d: light, 4%d; yearlings, 3%d (P); beet calf, sd; good, 4%d; inferior and damaged, 2d. Tallow. —Best mixed, 15/ per cwt; medium, 14/; poor, 10/ to 12/.
