LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

A.R.L. AFFAIRS

SPECTATOR REPORTED. ! CONSIDERATION OF INSURANCE. At the weekly meeting of the Auckland Rugby League last night, Mr. G. G re y Campbell presiding, it was decided to make a flat charge of sixpence for unemployed, this concession requiring the production of unemployment levy book containing the official stamp. A special turnstile is to be used at Carlaw Park for the admission of the unemployed. The board also resolved to admit free ail school children up to 14 years of age.

The senior clubs wrote approving the scheme for the stabilising of tlie player insurance fund by deducting £3 weekly from the gross gate takings for the purpose. The chairman said the unanimous approval of the clubs was very gratifying. A deputation, of which Mr. Gordon Seagar was spokesman, conferred with the board regarding the commencement of a Wednesday afternoon competition. He stated that a meeting of organisations interested had been hold and it was certain that six teams, if not eight, would enter. It was intended to conduct the competition on up-to-date lines, and, if possible, under the auspices of the Auckland League.

After some discussion, it was decided to support the request and to call a general meeting of those concerned on Tuesday evening.

The Devonport Club reported that its committee objected to the resolution recently passed regarding taking off time for matches that were started late. It suggested that this might unduly penalise a team that was punctual. The club proposed that its delegate be allowed to bring forward a better scheme. The secretary, Mr. Ivan Culpan, said the proposal was that a fine be imposed and this deduction made from any offending club's percentages. The chairman said that it might not altogether satisfy the -public, but the matter could well be discussed. _ Mr. L. Binns said the line system was in vogue in Sydney. It was decided to have the opinion of club delegates, and, in the meantime, the decision made would stand. Tli? Referees' Association reported a glaring instance of "hooligan" behaviour by a named spectator on the terrace at Carlaw Park on Saturday. It was said the referee of the main match was subjected to abusive and bad language from the man in the presence of many lady patrons. It was considered a policeman should parade the terrace. The chairman and secretary were deputed to consult with tho referees' secretary with power to act by .refusing the individual admission to the ground. The chairman said the board intended to take drastic action for any misconduct by spectators at the park. T. Hanlon, the Richmond Rovers player, wrote thanking the Rugby League and its clubs for the generous action in raising funds to assist him and his family to return from England.

N. Pascoe, of City Rovers, and an exAuckland representative, was granted a regrade to play and coach Manukau seconds, subject to his clearance from his old club being in order. Absolum, who belonged to Otahuhu Club, but did not play with the united Otahuhu-Ellerslie senior club, was granted a regrade to play for Otahuhu Rovers. S. Harris, of the same club, applied for reinstatement, which was granted, subject to approval by the New Zealand Council. Ponsonby United advised that the suspension of their reserve grade player H. Dear had been lifted. Registrations approved were:—Wm. J. Dear, Birkenhead, for Devonport United: O. Ferrall, Heme Bay (previously of Newton Rangers), P. E. Keesing (formerly of Ellerslie United) and C. R. Maher (exMount Albert), for Ponsonby United; Rangi Rauhina, Sandriugham, for City Rovers: C. Satherley, Ponsonby, for Richmond Rovers. The junior management delegate Mr. Wilkie reported that 200 new junior registrations had been received and approved, the chairman stating that tlx* development reflected much credit upon the junior board.
