LARGE APRIL TOTAL.

BIRTHS AND DEATHS,

Marriages at the Registry Office proved unusually popular at Auckland during the month which ends tomorrow. Seven this morning brought the total for April to 61, as compared with 37 in the same month last year. The total number of marriage notices for the month was 210, as compared with 123 last -year. The total number of notices for the four months of the -present year is 720, as compared with 592 for the same period last year. So far this year the registrar himself has carried out 105 marriages. In the same four months last year he officiated on 139 occasions.

Commenting on the large increase in marriages during the month, a leading Auckland caterer said this morning that he had received more orders for wedding cakes during Easter than ever before.

Registrations of births during April totalled IS2, increasing the total for the year to date to 76G. The monthly total showed an increase of 10 as compared with April last year, but the total for the four months is 57 less than the figure for the same period last year. Deaths this month totalled 128, as compared with 130 last year. The total for the year to da,te is 546, the figure for the same period last year beins 564.
