Pointer, a former member of the sect, told the Court that de Valdez, who came from London, had written to him to kill the Attorney-General, Mr. R. H. Pooley, by exercising mental suggestion on him. Mrs. Mary Connelly was awarded two islands used by the sect, for which she had paid de Valdez 35,000 dollars. She swore she was yoked to a plough and had been forced to scrub floors.
