WESTERN SUBURBS R.S.A.
The annual meeting of the Western Suburbs Returned Soldiers' Association was held last evening in the Glen Eden Public Hall. Mr. R. W. Wise (president) was in the chair. The report and balancesheet presented by the secretary, Mr. T. A. Bishop, were adopted. The report showed that £159 had been expended in subsidised work and assistance during the year. The question arose as to the status of ex-Imperial men in the R.S.A., and the chairman said he knew of no reason why they should not partake of the benefits of the association, which view was supported by the N.Z.R.S.A. in Wellington. Reference was made to the fact that all casts presented to the Auckland -Patriotic Society by the Western Suburbs R.S.A. had been assisted. Thanks were accorded the Glen Eden Town Board for. use of the library for executive meetings at a nominal rental, also to Messrs. J. -N. Rishworth and . E. Parkin for special services. It Was decided to send the following recommendation to the conference: "That Poppy Day be held on Armistice .Day." The following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. W. Wise; vicepresidents, Messrs. E. C. Owen, J. E. Slattery; executive, Messrs. D. A. Craigie, W. D. Taylor, .T. Edleston. G. Denton, E. Parkin, W. G. Camp, F. S. Godley, G. C. Noble, F. R. Strong, J. F. Farley, R. Wood, A. Baynes, D. T. Hunter. Mr. N. Cathie was appointed honorary auditor. Eulogistic. reference was made to the way in which the secretary, Mr. T. A. Bishop, had carried out his duties. The Poppv Day appeal by the Western Suburbs R.S.A. resulted in the. sum of approximately. £63 being collected.
