WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
TE KOWHAI. A meeting was held on April 10 when the remits of the bi-annnal conference of the W.F.W.I. were discussed, and two amendments were made. " An emblem flower—the manuka—was adopted, and it was decided to have a link with an institute in An interesting demonstration on "The Making of a Humpty" was given by Mrs. Porter. The points? competition, "A Hot Water Bag Coyer, Knitted or in Cloth," resulted: Mrs. W. Limmer first; Mrs. Cox second, Mrs. Johnson third. A competition, "A Memory Test," was won by Mrs. Cotter, with Mrs. Allen second. WAIMAUKU. A meeting of the Waimaukau Women's Institute was held on Wednesday, when Mrs. L. KerrTavlor presided over a good attendance! Six new members were welcomed. The two delegates chosen to attend the bi-annual meeting in Auckland were Mesdames A. Prentice and R. Hagen. It was decided to hold a bring and buy afternoon at the end of May, the proceeds to be for the federation funds, and for local school needs. The prize for the best article made from a sugar bag was won by Mrs. S. Brasington. The highest points for buttermaking were given to Mrs. D. Kilgour. Mesdames Morrison and J. Hosking were the hostesses.
