AUCKLAND CLUB.

FIXTURES. Saturday, April 29. —18-Mile Club Handicap. Saturday. May 6.—Auckland Centre 231 Miles Open Handicap. „ Once again the road season lias started. Although the club has passed through troublesome times 16 enthusiastic members lined up before the starter, Mr. E, King, for a one-lap race of the Te Afcatu circuit. The hard sandy roads have been productive of some fast times, and'as the season advances those times should be improved, as the course is iu perfect condition. Roy Taylor, following up his successes on the track, scored a popular and hardearned win. _ This rider, though young, has the makings of a first-class wheelman. Harry Webster rode a well-judged race, and with a little more luck would have secured the honours. More should be heard of this rider, as he only wants experience to bring him into the front line of cyclists. C. Hogan, though not as fit as he could be, rode .well-. to secure third place and also third fastest time. This rider would do svell to'g6 for •long, slow rides, and so build up stamina. The club expects to have good prospects for ■& successful -season in open company, when these riders, who were 'riding in their'first road taee, can make such good times; It was"'a. pity that some of the front-markers mistook the turn,-,-.as it robbed the -race, of some of the interest. Considering'the conditions, arid also the fact that;h*.Vwas riding: alone, G.' Patrick ■ rode a great.race to get fastest time. TAKAPUNA CLUB,

The club's chief event on April 22 was the senior race of. 18% miles (five laps of 3% miles), which drew a field of nearly 20 starters: The weather was inclement, heavy winds and showers prevailing, and parts, of the circuit made difficult going owing to loose metal. F. Roberts scored an easy victory from A. 'Grant. Frank Roberts, who has previously gained a second ■ place, is expected to do well at racing. He is as tough as they come and a keen and enthusiastic pedaller. A. Grant shows a steady improvement in. form and should before long realise l his associates' expectations. He will probably gain ; further encouragement from Saturday's placing, which will serve as a spur toward securing higher ratings. W. Pearce, ; who ;has taken part in many races' aid met' with varying fortunes, appears' to; be shaping better lately and may yet return. to the form which has already' brought him a trophy or two. L. Dick, the fourth .man home, is, as yet, a novice at the game, but he is persistent, and it is probable that his doggedness will bring its own reward. B. Sharp did not appear to be quite as fit as usual, his performance failing to convey the ease of riding and finish which we have come to expect from him. Judging by the way V. Blomfield led the Back bunch home, he lias not forgotten how to sprint, and it:is safe to say that he will soon be striking the great form he showed so consistently last year. In the junior race (three laps of 3% miles). W. Johnson led home from R. Jones, with O. McKee gaining third' place ' jand fastest time. . Johnson made the utmost •©£ his handicap, 1 and, keeping: well away from Jones, passed" the post before the latter came into the straight. McKee, who had drppped Chaplin, was about two chains behind the second man. Johnson and Jones will both make first-class racers with further experience, as both lads show speed and ride extremely well. Johnson has four starts and two firsts to his credit. Ross Jones has started twice and finished with a first and second place. O. McKee has a splendid record of "times," and, as be is improving his position each week, looks as if he intends to better them. .'■ ' ; ' . The next club race will be held on April 29, the seniors competing over 30 miles (eight laps of -3% miles) on the lake circuit. An out-and-home event has been arranged for juniors over the usual course toward Albany, the half-way mark being "Wairou Road, Glenfield.but the handicaps will be withheld' until the approximate distance .has been ascertained. Senior handicaps declared. by Mr Gallagher are. B. -Sharp/scr; V. Blomfield, E Bacon, 30s; O. Durbin, W.Nash, 1.0; ;A. Lydford, S Laurence, 1.30; B. Oliver, L. Coleman, G Towart, 2.0; F. Roberts, A.
