WAIUKU NEWS.
The monthly meeting of the Waiuku Farmers' Union was presided over by Air. A. White. He introduced Mr. Smith, ot the Agricultural Department, who gave a short address o,ri matters of interest to farmers. He said he would quote from Something he had heard, from a person who spoke on good authority: "The propaganda being spread regarding the glut of New Zealand aiid Australian butter on the British market was false, and had no foundation in fact." The object was to restrict imports of New Zealand and Australian butter into Britain because many of the big butter merchants had acquired large interests in Argentine and Continental dairying concerns. He strongly urged the continuance of full export. The New Zealand farmer should produce butter cheaper than any other country. Our position would also be improved when farmers learned that strain and type in pasture was as important as strain and type in stock. He referred to the ragwort menace, and urged early remedies. In reply to a question by Mr. Whitliam as to whether paspalum would kill ragwort, Mr. Smith said that paspalum made a capital host for ragwort. He condemned the use of iodide of potassium. It was decided by Mr. Harcombe that the Minister of Agriculture be written to re the recovery of rates, and asked that machinery be provided to enable farmers to escape cost of judgment. At the monthly meetinc of the Aka Aka Drainage Board, Mr. Hill presided. It was decided that as the unemployed relief workers would not carry on with the cleaning of Aka Aka Creek, the Dalmatians, who had already been on the work, be put on to complete it. The chairman was empowered to put on an additional man to expedite the work.
