EASTER IN CHURCHES.

SCENES OF DEVOTION.

LARGELY ATTENDED SERVICES,

Christians of all denominations in Auckland attended special services yesterday to observe tho anniversary of the Crucifixion.

In St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Paul's three-hour devotional services, commencing at noon, wero held, in addition to morning and evening cervices. Archbishop Averill conducted the devotional service at St. Mary's, and the Rev. Canon Fancourt was the preacher at the morning and evening services. The Rev. Cecil Watson conducted the devotion service at St. Paul's. In the evening coloured lantern elides of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection were shown. The preacher at tho morning service at St. Matthew's Church was Archdeacon Siinkin, and in the evening Canon Strong.

The Easter observances were continued at St. Patrick's Cathedral, beginning in the morning with tho Mass of the Presanctified. The preacher in the evening was Father Innocent Doyle.

. In tho Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, and Baptist Churches Easter services wero held, and there were united services in the Baptist Tabernacle and the Beresford Street Congregational Church.

At the Epsom Methodist Church "The Crucifixion" was sung by combined choirs.

Special united services of tho Salvation Army were held at the Newton Corps Hall, and an evening meeting in the Congress Hall was led by Captain Wallace.
