RACING AT ELLERSLIE.

THE AUTUMN MEETING.

PROGRAMME FOR SATURDAY.

TWO CLASSIC EVENTS CARDED.

GOOD HANDICAP FIELDS ENGAGED.

The autumn meeting of the Auckland Racing Club will open at Ellerslie on Saturday, and with the exception of the classic events excellent fields are engaged. The course should be m first-class order if no further rain falls in the interim, and some most interesting racing should be provided. The club will introduce the system of straight-out betting at this meeting. Up to fields of four horses there will only be one dividend, but in fields of five, six and seven two dividends will be paid on the place machine, and patrons can also back straight out for a win. In fields of eight or more the place machine will declare three dividends, while the straight-out machine will be in operation, too.! Tickets for both straight-out and place betting will be procurable in all the enclosures, though there will only be indicators to show how the betting is going on the straight-out machine in the lawn and Leger enclosures. Place betting will be shown in the Derby enclosure.
