UNITED MOVE.
CHESS AND DRAUGHTS.
Negotiations which have been proceeding for sOme time between the Auckland Chess Club and the Auckland Draughts Club for a working arrangement for raising the standard of both games .in Auckland were completed last night. The Chess Club is carrying out a reorganisation scheme and a "drive" for members, the first step being adopted at the club's annual meeting last Monday, when it was decided to reduce the annual subscription by half. It was decided then that a draughts section should be formed by an arrangement with tlie Draughts Club, which does not possess rooms of its own.
Under the agreement members of the Draughts Club, on the payment of a subscription agreed upon, will have the use of the Chess Club rooms and tables each Wednesday night. As the Chess Club is now open every afternoon and evening, members of the draughts section will also have the use of the clubrooms on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights, but priority of tables on those nights will be for chess players. Tuesday and Thursday nights will, as in the past, be devoted to chess tournament play. The arrangement is to have a year's trial, and if it works smoothly steps may be taken for amalgamation of the clubs. The Chess Club's winter season opens on April 22 with a "visitors' night, when a lightning tourney will be played. The Draughts Club will open its season a week or two later.
