CITY COMMITTEE'S WORK.

In his report at the • annual meeting of the Auckland Boys' Employment Committee last night, the retiring president, Mr. N. G. Gribble, said that during the year ended March .31. work had been found for 594 boys in the town and 447 in the country. Since its inception 113 boys had passed through the St. John's camp and 67 of these had gone to-positions.. There were 16 boys in camp at present. They were paid a weekly wage of 5/ by the St; John's College Trust Board and giveh free lunch and free transport to and from their homes. At the town depot from 12 to 16 boys at a time were employed njaking boxes and preparing kindling ' wood. These boys were paid 2/6 a week and given free lunch.; The Seddon Memorial Technical College had provided special. free classes for unemployed boys in useful subjects, generally agriculture. Two donations of £100 each had been received, one from the Unemployment Board and one more recently, from the., trustees of the Auckland Savings Bank. From July 18, when the committee was enlarged, to March 31, £1333 had been spent, and there was . a sum of £958 in the ba.nk. . Further financial assistance would be needed, however, to carry on during the coming year.
