WORST FOR YEARS.
FLOODS NEAR SYDNEY. 10,000 Acres of Cultivated Land Submerged. HEROIC RESCUE REPORTED. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Thousands of pounds' worth of damage, to the farms and market gardens was done by the worst floods for years in the Windsor district. About 10,000 acres under cultivation are now submerged to a depth of two or three feet.
A sheet of water half a mile wide and four or five feet deep has blocked all traffic on the Sydney-Windsor road. It is now certain that the cessation of the rain on Thursday night saved the district from a much more disastrous flood.
Two men washed off East Creek bridge near Riverstone were pluckily rescued by Jack Huntingford, who had warned the men not to attempt the crossing. The police have made a report to the Royal Humane Society, proposing that Huntingford be fittingly rewarded for his heroic deed.
