An importaut step to rehabilitate British industry is foreshadowed by the announcement of details of a £200,000,000 scheme to rationalise the iron and steel industry. Associations are being formed to deal with special products, like pig iron and tin plates, and will be controlled by a central body incorporated by Royal charter.

Other details include advisory committees on wages, transport and research. Income will be derived from an annual levy, and the corporation will facilitate desirable amalgamations to promote -<gxports and negotiate with foreign Governments and industries.

Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, writes that the scheme is a real step forward, though only the first stage has been reached. The Government is ready to give support as it ia necessary.
