PROTEST AT EAWERA.

(By Telegraph.— Press Association.) . HAWERA, this day. At a public meeting last evening an attendance of 200 unanimously protested against discrimination in the allocation of relief funds as between the country districts and the cities, and called upon the Mayor to convene a meeting of local bodies in support of the protest. It was pointed out that relief workers in the cities had no stand-down week and received the same rates of pay for four weeks as did country unemployed, who were compelled to stand down one week in four. The unanimous opinion was expressed that, as country residents contributed to the Unemployment Board's funds in the same proportion as city residents, the (basis of allocations was grossly unfair.
