ATTEMPTED THEFT.

TWO LABOURERS IMPRISONED.

George Bernard Cox, aged 25, and John Briton Clark, aged 35, labourers, were each sentenced to two months' imprisonment by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday on a charge of attempting to steal two motor tyres valued at £25, the property of Ferguson and Kew, at Taupaki, on March 31.

Both men, represented by Mr. K. C. Aekins, pleaded not guilty and denied that they had anything to do with the attempt to remove two tyres from a motor lorry. Both stated that they went to Taupaki at the request of another man named Mold, and that it was Mold who attempted to take the tyres. William Geoffrey Mold, aged 29 (Mr. Noble) was similarly charged, but he elected to be dealt with by the Supreme Court, and was remanded until next week.
