MUNGATOON TO SPELL.

INQUIRY FOR INTAGLIO,

A two-year-old colt-by MusketOon—Lady "Wallace, bred by Mr. N. Kinn, of Wairakau, is being leased to Mr. Cliff Reid, and will be trained, after being broken in, by G. A. Reid, who has had minor successes recently with Chateau. The "juvenile is well grown and shows plenty of power. His dam is by Catmint, so there is reason to expect the new aspirant to racing honours to be a payable proposition in due course. Lucy Rose has practically recovered from the bruises received-on her return journey from the Paeroa meeting, and it is more than likely that she will line up at Ellerslie to cpmpete at Easter. • During the week.a Thames owner was desirous of taking a lease of the Musketoon —Rothsay gelding Musksay, but in the meantime he has not changed hands and is indulging in a spell on his owner's Shaftesbury property. . An inquiry was made last week, with a view to the purchase of the Lapidary— Gold Plane gelding Intaglio, but his Hay of Plenty owner is not desirous of selling him at present. Bred by Mr. Rhodes Wallace, of Te Aroha, Intaglio showed plenty of pace as a two-year-old on the local tracks, but was disposed of before' he struck winning form. Mr. C. G. Wyborn, breeder of IrArtagnan, "has leased to Mr. Ellerington, of Paeroa, a two-year-old filly by King Lu from a thoroughbred mare by Glen Albyn —Scotch Lady. She is a decidedly wellgrown and developed juvenile, and in due course is expected to enter the ranks of the jumping brigade. W. Preston, of Waihou, who has ridden Free, Air in her recent engagements, will have the mount on the Kilbroney mare in the Brighton Hurdles. Since running at Tauranga Val Watch has improved and is hitting out nicely on the tracks. By the time the Te Kuiti meeting comes round this half-sister to Day Guard should be in first-class racing trim.

Desert Star is in nice trim and ready to fulfil his , Ellerslie engagements. This Sandstar gelding has done well since joining the Mallowes' stable and should perform creditably even in winter events.

Don't Lap is continuing to execute very satisfactory track work and is in good heart. He should soon b e capable of racing over a middle distance, and if so will make amends for recent failures before the season is over. King's Archer is again putting plenty of vim into his work,_ but of late has been Restricted to sprinting work. It will not be decided until early next week whether he is to fulfil his Auckland engagements, but. on appearances he is a likely contestant for Ellerslie..

Chateau was brought back from his Bay of Plenty trio this week and looks all the better for tEe outing. The Quin Abbey gelding, who last season was apt to stop after going five furlongs, showed that he can now negotiate at least seven. In the. capable hands of G. A. Keid he will doubtless improve. J. F. Eva has Marble King executing track work, in view, of winter racing. -The Marble Arch gelding appears to be more \robust in constitution than in his early career and should - make good in crosscountry events. . . Mr. P. A. Mungatoon, after being given a course of physic, has been turned out for a spell. Not being big enough to carry winter weights, the Musketoon gelding will do .very little, racing until next spring. : . Mustang did not race as well as expected at the Bay of Plenty' ■meeting, and since then has only done light work. He is one that should race well next season, as he has pac.e and j a spirit of determination.
