CIVIC LEAGUE.
At a meeting on Friday, in the Diocesan rooms, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon was in the chair. A letter was read from the district traffic manager granting_ the league's request to have two trains stop at Purewa Cemetery station daily, also a letter from the Minister of Justice, promising consideration to the league's protest re inadequate punishment in cases of gross cruelty to animals. A letter from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was received, expressing appreciation of the league's protest. Great appreciation was expressed by the league of the Press taking up the matter of noises at night, made by motor cycles and other means. The president and secretary will represent the league at the Auzac Day service and lay a wreath at the Cenotaph. Arrangements were also made for Poppy Day street collection. A letter is to be sent to Mr. D. V. Bryant congratulating him on his success in obtaining the money aimed at for his "On the Land" scheme of small holdings. It was resolved that a league badge bo worn by league members, when representing the league at various functions.
